Growing an Entrepreneurial Economy in Northeast China Under the New Normal

We successfully held the first Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference (GEIC), on April 29-30, 2014. The theme of the conference was Developing China’s Innovation-Based Economy through Technology Entrepreneurship. We invited the Nobel Prize winner Prof. Dan Shechtman to give the keynote speech. Nearly 100 Chinese and international experts, scholars from the Netherlands, Israel, Britain, Germany, Russia and other 10 countries attended our conference. Selected papers from more than 60 submissions were invited to submit to a special issue on Innovation in China of the Technology Analysis & Strategic Management Journal that will be published and presented in the GIEC 2015. Building on the success of GIEC2014 we now organize the second GIEC2015.
Following China’s economy move into the “new normal” phase, Chinese central government is engaging in the implementation of innovation-driven development strategy, advocating public entrepreneurship and innovation. Due to the “New Northeast Phenomenon”, the northeast old industrial base is of great concern. Therefore, it is facing new developing opportunities and challenges. Developing entrepreneurial economy and realizing innovation-driven development are the keys to the new turn and the soar for northeast. During the conference experts will present and discuss the following topics: how to understand the economic growth prospect of China and northeast area under new normal? How to construct entrepreneurial economic system and entrepreneurial ecosystem? How to learn from advanced countries and area’s entrepreneurial experiences in order to promote transformation and upgrading and solve the growing pains of economic development in northeast area? To explore more about the issues mentioned above, we decide to present this year’s theme as Growing an Entrepreneurial Economy in Northeast China Under the New Normal.
